Book Review - Replica 17: Missing Pieces

Author: Marilyn Kaye
Everybody knows Amy Candler as one of the students at Parkside Middle School. What they don't know is that she's also a super-clone - stronger, faster and smarter than anyone else. It's a good thing she is too because she ends up in the strangest adventures and needs her powers to escape in one piece!
It's a regular year at Parkside Middle School, until everybody starts losing their special talents. The quarterback can't throw, the sprinter can't run, the only dribbling the basketball team can do is into a napkin and it's scaring everyone. Add in a talentless talent show, a hapless geek, boyfriend troubles and a social clique and Amy has her hands full. Will she be able to solve this mysterious crisis?
Marilyn Kaye has managed to write a really neat story. Amy's a cool kid with some serious gifts and some really normal issues. The story doesn't go all screwy and turn into an over-the-top comic book. It sounds like something that could happen to you. It's more about who's making fun of who, what makes people cool and how to deal with peer pressures than it is about super-powers. That's totally cool and it's awesome to see that the greatest super-power that Amy has is her super-brain.
There are a few little things that seem weird and the ending never really does get explained but it's a solid read with some cool characters.
