Yao Ming
This week the Houston Rockets lose Yao Ming for the season and the Memphis Tigers finally lose a game. See what else happened!
Yao Out For the Year
Just when things were looking good for the
Houston Rockets, something had to ruin it. Winners of 13 straight games, the Rockets'
playoff hopes were dampened when it was announced their star center Yao Ming due to a stress fracture in his
left foot. The Rockets, who are currently in seventh place in a tight playoff race, were playing their
best ball of the season this past month. The
injury is also devastating for Yao, who may miss the 2008 Summer Olympics in his native country of
China because of the injury
Memphis Loses
In one of the best
college basketball games of the season, the second ranked
Tennessee Volunteers defeated and top ranked Memphis Tigers 66-62 last Saturday. The Tigers were the nation's
last unbeaten team and the game was at Memphis so this was a major upset. Although Tennessee star Chris Lofton only scored seven points, he hit crucial
free throws in the final seconds to secure the victory for the Vols. A few days after the win, Tennessee became the
new number one team in the nation and have a 25-2 record.
Fischer to Play in Charity Game
In November 2005, Detroit Red Wings defenseman
Jiri Fischer collapsed on the bench during a game against the Nashville Predators. Fischer's
heart stopped and paramedics had to use an automatic external
defibrillator to revive him. This Saturday, Fischer plans to play hockey for the first time in over two years at a
charity hockey game that will raise money for the same automatic external defibrillators that
saved his life.
