What is the Bermuda Triangle?

You won't find the Bermuda Triangle on a map but the name can still strike fear into the hearts of some peeps. The Bermuda Triangle's three corners extend from the island of Bermuda to Miami, Florida to San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is in this area that a high number of unexplained disappearances of planes, ships and people have taken place.

Bermuda Triangle - What Happened to Flight 19?

One of the most famous disappearances is Flight 19. On December 5, 1945, five US Navy Avenger bombers mysteriously vanished while on a routine training mission. The flight was led by Lieutenant Charles Taylor, who kept in contact on the radio until nothing could be heard. The rescue plane that was sent to search for them never made it back either. Six aircrafts and 27 men vanished without a trace, or so it seems. Did Flight 19 simply crash into the Atlantic Ocean or did something more mysterious happen? And where did the rescue plane go?

Bermuda Triangle - What Happened Aboard the Marie Celeste?

Some people believe the Bermuda Triangle extends farther than the outlined area of Bermuda, Miami and San Juan. If this is the case then another interesting disappearance is worth mentioning. The Marie Celeste left New York Harbor on November 5, 1872 with a cargo of industrial alcohol. Passengers on board the ship were Captain Benjamin Spooner Briggs, his wife and two year-old daughter and eight crew members. On December 5th of that year, another ship found the Marie Celeste adrift in the Atlantic Ocean. All the passengers and one lifeboat were missing. The cargo and personal belongings were left behind on the ship. It was clear that the boat had been abandoned quickly so not enough supplies would have been on the lifeboat. Why the Marie Celeste was abandoned is a mystery.

What's Going On at the Bermuda Triangle?

It is said that more than 50 ships and 20 planes have gone down in the Bermuda Triangle (also called the Devil's Triangle) during the last century. The deepest point in the Atlantic Ocean lies within the Bermuda Triangle, which might explain why some planes and ships are never seen again. More than a few people think the Bermuda triangle is full of UFO activity. In fact, some think that aliens have abducted missing planes and ships. Other people believe the area has several vortexes (usually a swirl of water that sucks in everything near it) that transport the lost planes and ships to another time and place. Then there are always logical explanations for the disappearances like weather, lack of experience and strong currents.
