College basketball action is back with NCAA March Madness 08 for PS2, PS3 and Xbox 360. From the starting toss to the final 3-pointer, it brings all the bball action home so you and your friends can play as your favorite teams and crush the competition. But, does it have game? Read Gary's game review and find out.
Play Ball! No, the OTHER Ball Game
NCAA March Madness 08 is the latest
college basketball game from
Electronic Arts. It gives you 74 squads to play with, an online league for
PS3 and
Xbox 360 players, solid new low-post play options and even a new
ESPN news display to keep you up-to-date on the latest sports news. It also has a new announcer and a super-simple shooting system.
Slam Dunk Goodness!
If you're looking for fun, this game brings home a lot of the
college ball feel with the
cheering crowd and an Impact Momentum feature that lets you rally the home crowd for some
hoots and hollers. The
online leagues are sweet too, with room for up to 32 players get together for some serious gameplay. It adds up to a nice selection of
fun options.
Dribbling and Drooling
Ugh. Want lightning-fast action and incredible ball-handling? You won't find that here. The
gameplay is sluggish, especially on the
PS3, and for some reason the ball will take off in random directions for no good reason. Even straight up. Wha?... Combine that with some
weak gameplay options and it's time to pack up your ball and go home.
The Final Score
This game has everything it takes to be awesome, but it forgot something in the change room and hit the court with its
laces untied and its
shorts around its ankles. If you stick with it, there's a pile of fun to be had. But, the bugs and limited options make it frustrating.
NCAA March Madness 08 is for hardcore basketball fans only.
Thumbs Up:
