*NSYNC Intimate Holiday Special Fox - November 30, 2000

The guys really know how to put on a show. Whether it's a big concert extravaganza or a comfy little holiday special - they do it in style. For their first prime time holiday special, JC, Justin, Joey, Lance and Chris go all out. They have a wicked set, cool graphics, great music and cool personal segments.

The show is divided nicely between personal stuff on each member's life outside the band and soulful performances in front of a subdued crowd under a "big top" circus ring. Even *NSYNC know-it-alls like me found out something new about the guys. Did you know Justin was asked to record a song with his idol Brian McKnight? Did you know that JC phones himself and leaves himself messages when a cool hook for a new song hits him? I didn't.

As for the music; it's all live instruments and new melodies. Bye Bye Bye has a reggae feel to it and It's Gonna Be Me has a funky R&B rift happening. For This I Promise You they bring out Richard Marx, who wrote the song.

And since it is a holiday special the guys do You Don't Have to be Alone which is on the soundtrack for the movie How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Oh Holy Night sounds so good it gave me goose bumps.

The true highlight (for me) is when they perform I'll Be Good For You. This song is on the No Strings Attached album and was written by Justin. It is amazing and I never thought that they would do it live because well, they haven't - even in their recent tour. It is my favorite song on the album and has a very urban feel to it - and it sounds even funkier live.

It's not the typical big stage, flashy FX and booty shakin' *NSYNC special and that's what makes it great. In this case less is definitely more.
