What does the King of Pop do to celebrate his 50th birthday? Release an album, of course! Kidzworld puts Michael Jackson's new compilation CD to the test.
Michael Jackson :: The King of Pop
You may be wondering why you
haven't heard much about this album. That's because it's only being released in places
outside of North America, like
Germany,
Japan and the
U.K. Here's the cool part: Michael
let fans choose which tracks they wanted included on their
country's version of the disc. Each album has its own
flavor specific to the country where it's being released. The U.K. chose more
dance songs (Rock With You,
Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough), whereas
Australia made enough picks to warrant a
double album. All over the world, however, it's clear that people still love
Michael Jackson, and in particular, they love hits like Billie Jean,
Beat It and Smooth Criminal. That Jackson has created
so many modern pop classics must make him pretty happy as he
celebrates half a century on the planet!
Fun Facts
A mashup of Jackson's hits, called the Thriller Megamix, was created by super producer Jason Nevins (Backstreet Boys, Fergie) for some versions of the album.
The nickname King of Pop was given to Michael by his friend, actress Elizabeth Taylor, when she presented him with an Artist of the Decade award in 1989.
Jackson's last release, Thriller 25, was the 25th anniversary edition of Thriller.
This is the first album of Jackson's in his 40 year career that won't be released in the United States.
In the U.K., 66,000 people voted for the tracks they wanted to see on their version of King of Pop!
