Darius Goes West :: A Journey to Sell a Million DVDs

Jul 16, 2018

Darius Weems is a 15-year-old with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy - an ultimately fatal disease - who had never left his hometown of Athens, Georgia. In the summer of 2005, he and a group of young college students traveled across the country in a wheelchair-accessible RV. Their goal was to reach Los Angeles and convince MTV's hit show, "Pimp My Ride," to customize Darius's wheelchair. His journey was filmed and turned into the documentary Darius Goes West, which was the most-awarded documentary film of 2007. Now Darius is on a new journey - and he needs your help!

One Year. One Million DVDs.

The Million DVD fundraiser has begun! The goal of the DGW Foundation is to sell one million copies of Darius's Award winning film, in roughly one year - beginning September 1st, 2008 and ending on Darius's birthday, Sept. 27th, 2009.

How Can You Help?

The best way you can help the campaign is to buy a DVD. Each DVD is $20, with $17 of that going toward promising research intended to treat or cure Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and the other $3 going towards making more DVDs.
