Poster Boy Bob Masse

Dec 27, 2006

Looking for the perfect poster of your favorite band? You won't find any *NSYNC or Britney posters by Bob Masse but you'll still love his work. His psychedelic posters include musicians such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, U2 and Fiona Apple.

Bob always liked to draw. He was born in Burnaby, Canada and used to have serious competitions with his cousin to see who could draw the most Bugs Bunnies. After graduating, Bob went to art school. He starting hanging out at the local coffee shops which gave him the opportunity to do concert posters for the musicians that came through town. One of his earlier posters was done for a young, new hot shot from New York - Bob Dylan. He wasn't a big name back then and Bob accidentally spelt his last name Dylon.

After a trip to San Francisco during the mid 1960s, Bob's style changed a lot. He got more psychedelic. He took a trip to Los Angeles to do the Collectors' album cover and ended up living there for a few years. During that time, Bob produced posters and album covers.

He returned to Canada and did some commercial artwork. Right now he only does posters which take about three weeks to a month to complete. Why does he only do musicians? "Because what I really like to do is the artwork," he explains. "Basically, I've gotten into this field and I have a marketplace. I'm an artist. I want to do a certain type of art." The one band Bob would love to do his 'certain type of art' for - The Rolling Stones.

Bob's posters are usually around $25 but if you want an autographed one, the price goes up. You'll even find some collectable posters by him. His posters can be found all over the states and in Vancouver, Canada so keep your eyes open for his unique work.
