Chloe (voiced by Drew Barrymore) is a pampered pooch who lives the doggone good life until she gets lost and dognapped while vacationing in Mexico.

Chihuahua in Chanel

Chloe is used to laps of luxury (her owner, Vivian, is played by a vivacious Jamie Lee Curtis) but when she finds herself in the middle of an illegal dog fighting ring, the coddled chihuahua is forced to enlist the help of some haggard hounds..

Magnanimous Mutts

Making friends with down-and-out doggies is no easy task for the snooty, diamond-clad Chloe. Back home, she ignored the advances of Papí (voiced by George Lopez) because she considered him lower-class, but in Mexico, the consumerist canine soon learns to see the substance under the surface of her street tough companions. Delgado (voiced by Andy Garcia), the tough but good-hearted German Shephard, rescues her from a dangerous Doberman and takes Chloe through the streets of her ancestral home. Chloe eventually learns to appreciate her Mexican cultural heritage and finally appreciates Papí. Who travels all the way from Beverly Hills to rescue her.

DVD Extras

The chihuahua’s history is a bit of a mystery, but the Legend of the Chihuahua animated cartoon that’s included in the Special Features attempts to tell the story. Did you know that even though chihuahuas are the smallest dogs, their brains are proportionally the largest? Does that also make them the smartest? Hrm…

The Chihuahua Nation deleted scene features a short clip of Chloe eating grasshoppers. She’s told to eat them or risk offending the locals. There’s a good lesson here about respecting others’ customs. Chloe ends up loving the taste!

In the Tribal Vision Quest clip, Chloe must drink the sacred water to find her true self within. Her spirit guide teaches her that a warrior’s strength comes from courage, heart and loyalty, and that most warriors are afraid until they find something worth fighting for. Chloe realizes its love for Papí that gives her strength.
