Meet six young up-and-coming actors and actresses who are sure to heat up the screen in 2002. Kidzworld predicts you'll be seeing a lot more of this gang so check 'em out!

The Guys

1

Tom Welling

25 year-old Tom Welling equals H-o-t-t, hot with a capital H! This dark haired hottie from Putnam Valley, New York plays the teenage Clark Kent (as in Superman) in the WB hit, Smallville. He's a far cry from the nerdy Clark Kent in the Superman flicks. When Smallville breaks for four months you can bet Tom Welling will dig into another project.

1

Shane West

This cutie stars opposite Mandy Moore in A Walk to Remember and on the ABC drama, Once and Again. He even popped up for a cameo in Ocean's Eleven as himself. Aside from acting, 23 year-old Shane West plays the guitar, sings and writes for his band, Average Jo.

1

Glenn Howerton

Glenn Howerton has an extensive theater background but is pretty new to the tube. He plays wannabe musician, Corey, in the new Fox series, That '80s Show. Glenn Howerton can also be seen in the upcoming TNT movie, Monday Night Mayhem in 2002.

The Gals

1

Laura German

You'll probably want give Laura a smack if you caught her in A Walk to Remember with Mandy Moore and Shane West. The 23 year-old plays a really mean chick who torments Mandy's character and even pastes Mandy's face on a porno photo and passes it around school. Nasty! Catch Laura German playing a paraplegic in an upcoming indie flick called Everything Is Fine.

1

Elisha Cuthbert

18 year-old Elisha Cuthbert plays Kiefer Sutherland's daughter in the new series 24. The Calgary born actress, who got her start modeling, was a co-host on Popular Mechanics for Kids when she was just 15. Catch Elisha Cuthbert in her first starring role this spring (tentative April 2002) in the TV movie, Lucky Girl.

1

Taryn Manning

You may have caught Taryn playing Kirsten Dunst's best friend in last year's Crazy/Beautiful. The talented Arizona native also sings in a band with her brother called Boomkat. David E. Kelly was so impressed with Taryn's singing that he wrote a special episode of Boston Public just for her. Get set to see Taryn Manning in a small role in Eminem's autobiography, 8 Mile as well as Britney's debut flick, Crossroads.

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
