Winter Olympics Begin

1 The Winter Olympics are underway in Salt Lake City. More than 2500 athletes from 77 countries will be competing in the Games which run until February 24th. Keep logging on to Kidzworld for Olympic updates and more stories on the top medal contenders.

1 In order to help his country advance to the final round of the Olympic hockey tournament, Miroslav Satan of the Buffalo Sabres, will be racking up some major air miles. Miroslav will play February 8th for the Sabres against Ottawa. He'll then fly to Salt Lake City to play for Slovakia in the opening game against Germany on Saturday before flying back to New Jersey for a game against the Devils on Sunday. In three days, he'll play three games and travel nearly 4,000 miles!

1 Philadelphia will be the site of the NBA highest flyers and sharpest shooters during the All-Star weekend on February 9th and 10th. The NBA's slam dunk competition and three-point shoot out hits the court on Saturday. The All-Star game, featuring your favorite NBA stars including Kobe, Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett and Allen Iverson, takes place on Sunday. Unfortunately, Shaq and Vince Carter will not be playing because of injuries. For more on the All-Star weekend, click here.

1 A nine-foot bronze statue of Dale Earnhardt has been placed outside the Dayton Speedway where the NASCAR legend was killed in a crash on February 18, 2001. The statue shows Dale after his 1998 victory at the Daytona 500. The statue includes his racing gloves and a penny given to him earlier that day by a little girl.

It's definitely an American thing - here in Australia we have like no Cheerleaders or Cheerleading groups. I think it's a sport but I'm not really into it. I think any girls or boys can do it. :3
