Shakira - Laundry Service - CD Review

The Latin phenomenon known as Shakira may seem new to North America but like Ricky Martin and a few others before her, she's been a big pop star in the world of Latin music for years. Shakira's latest album, Laundry Service, is her first English album and it's quickly made her a mega popstar in the US and Canada.

Shakira's first single, Whenever,Wherever with its wooden flute-like sounds and jumbled lyrics, is one of those tunes you hear once and it sticks in your head for a week. On Shakira's second single, Underneath Your Clothes, you get a taste of her romantic ballad style. It also proves she's capable of making a successful slow song, not just booty-shakers.

Shakira's often compared to Britney Spears but after listening to Laundry Service, I'd say Shakira has more musical talent than Brit's got in her baby finger. I was expecting a CD of the same sounding overproduced tracks that make up Top 40 radio but my ears got a nice surprise. Some songs are Spanish-influenced, catchy, dance tracks with a disco flare while others have guitar riffs that sound as if Shakira was jammin' with Aerosmith. Shakira also sings four tunes in Spanish. Laundry Service has songs to fit all your moods and you won't regret forking out your allowance money.

I just love Shakira's songs like Whenever, Wherever and Underneath Your Clothes but I don't have enough money to buy her CD. I think she is a great singer and a very talented young woman who has shown everyone that Latin Americans can make it in the U.S. Shakira has inspired me to always be the best I can be.
