Bone: Rose Graphic Novel Review

Author: Jeff Smith
Illustrator: Charles Vess
Series: Bone
Ages: 9-12

If you thought BONE, the graphic novel series by Jeff Smith and illustrator Charles Vess, was over when Book 9, Crown of Horns, came out, well, then, you'd be … only sort of right. On August 1 the prequel to BONE, called ROSE, comes out to tell the story of what happened … before the story.

The Story (Before The Story)

BONE is the story of the three little Bone dudes who get lost in the woods and wind up battling the Lord of the Locusts to help Thorn reclaim her family's kingdom. Their story is over. But how was the kingdom lost? When did the Lord of the Locusts assume power? And how did a princess named Rose become the Grandma Ben we know in BONE?

You’ll get answers to all those burning questions in ROSE.

Love it or hate it, the crazy theory of Flat Earth is gaining a lot of popularity and movement world wide. What's your opinion? Remember, regardless of what anyone says, keep an open mind and don't bash. I'm curious to see why people believe the way they do, or if they have facts and evidence to support their claims. So, do you believe the Earth is flat....or spherical?

No, AlphaT won't be missed. And he totally isn't tearing up right now.  Thank you. I know it sounds unoriginal, but getting to know all of you has been an absolute privilege. Each of you made my time here worthwhile, and it's nice knowing that I've done the same for you all.  Goodbye!

Now it's time for my special paragraph... Which probably isn't as colorful or wonderful as everyone else's... S is for Sister... You're like a sister to me, and I couldn't imagine my life without someone like you. N is for Neon... You glow so bright, like neon lights. You make everything seem happier. O is for Outgoing...  W is for Wonder... F is for  L is for  A is for  K is for  E is for  A is for  N is for  G is for Graceful...  E is for  L is for  K is for  I is for Intelligent... T is for  T is for  E is for  N is for  (Gotta finish it later, WB...)

You know, I agree with your theory. I don't think I can put it into the well-thought and eloquent wording you did, but as vast as the human mind is, each individual one has its limits. Everyone clearly thinks different of what is wrong and what is right - Hitler did think that his actions were a good thing, didn't he?  The most evil thing I could think of certainly isn't KW appropriate. Then, expanding on that further, I figured that murder is probably one of the worst things a human can do. But then that got me thinking: what  if it's the other way around? Or, what if there is something even worse than both of those? Everything else that came to mind probably, most likely, isn't a KW kind of topic - and I'm sure my brain can't even come up with everything else disgraceful. Therefore, I don't think I can determine which is worse, as there are many things I find putrid - and some I can't even think of - and they're all quite horrible. So then the most good thing I thought of was angels. They're pure and holy, right? What can be even greater than that? The Lord, of course. To someone who believe ins Him, who or what is more just and righteous than that? This got me wondering what those who do not believe in Him would say. Charity work, perhaps? A newborn child who is yet to have experienced the awfulness of the world? An innocent domestic animal whose perception of the world is far different from ours? This was definitely really thought-provoking. I might have to think about this further sometime in the future.
