Amelia Atwater Rhodes, the best vamp writer out there, is back again with her third book, Shattered Mirror. With an intricate story of witches, vampires and their rules and rituals, Shattered Mirror starts slower than her previous books but suddenly picks up the pace. It leaves you wanting more - just like Demon in My View and In The Forests of the Night.

At first, I was a little disappointed by Shattered Mirror as I didn't find the character of Sarah Vida (a witch from royal witch lines) all that easy to absorb or bond with. And her family is not just unlikeable but annoying as well. Hello - are you witches or robots?! Actually, robots probably have more emotion than Sarah's sister or mother do.

Eventually, though, I found myself pulled into Sarah's struggle with the black-and-white moral code her family lives by and the gray she discovers after falling in like (and kinda-love) with Christopher Raven, a vampire. The witch with the mostest discovers that, maybe, there is no such thing as "pure evil." Of course, if you're an Amelia Atwater Rhodes fan, you know her plots aren't that simple... Shattered Mirror throws a curve into the plotline with the introductiion of Christopher Raven's twin brother, Nikolas. And Nikolas just happens to be as close to "pure evil" as you can get!

This book may start slower than Amelia Atwater Rhodes' previous page-turners, but it starts a steady story that picks up pace as it goes along. It's definitely worth pushing through the first 30 or 40 pages because, before you know it, you're in that detailed, slippery world of vampire legend, witch lore and enjoyable twists of fate that Amelia Atwater Rhodes is known for weaving.
