Ant Nation :: DS Game Review

Ant Nation is a simple but rewarding and enjoyable real-time strategy (RTS) game for the best console out there to play this style of game, the DS. This game plays to the DS’ strengths, with an intuitive control scheme and simple but colourful graphics. With mission modes and a 2-player battle mode, Ant Nation brings a simplified RTS to the world of the DS for anyone to have fun with.

Colonialism

Ant Nation places you in the role of an ant commander as you battle your enemies for resources to keep your colony afloat in the main single-player mode. You begin the game with only a handful of ant workers and soldiers but through completing missions you can build extra rooms in your colony to allow for more ants. This of course requires more resources and you must send your ants to sugar cubes and candies to collect feed for the masses.

Ant Nationalism

The birth of your ant nation provides you with many challenges. You have to repel any attacking insects, some of which swarm in large numbers such as red ants. Others fly around the screen, making it difficult for your ants to pin them down. These conflicts, coupled with missions that you seek out, make for a lot to keep track of at times. Thankfully, the simple touch screen controls allow you to follow the action and the camera is easy to move around. If you have a friend with Ant Nation, you can battle them for ant supremacy over the supported system link wireless connection.

Real-Time Strategy

Ant Nation will immediately be familiar to anyone who has played games such as Starcraft or Command and Conquer. If you’re a fan of the genre or just enjoy a more “managing” approach to your games, you’ll surely enjoy Ant Nation.
