Everyone knows that Sonic is the fastest thing on two legs, but how about two wheels or four wheels? Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing with Banjo Kazooie gives you the chance to see for yourself who is the fastest mascot character.
All Star Cast
Over 20 characters are in for the fun in this crazy racing game! Seven are from the Sonic universe including Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Dr. Eggman, and Big the Cat. Characters from other games are also present, including Aiai, Samba, Amigo, Ulala, Ryo, and some Virtua Fighters. There is a mixture of cartoony and realistic looking characters. In the XBox version of the game, you can also race as Banjo Kazooie as well as your XBox avatar!
The race tracks in the game also draws inspiration from all the various games that the all-stars come from including House of the Dead, Super Monkey Ball, and Shenmue. All 24 of the race courses are super fun, filled with good shortcuts and other secrets to discover.
Not Completely Starstruck
Some of the characters, like Billy Hatcher and Opa Opa may seem random to all but super long term SEGA players. Additionally, while the race tracks are great, the battlemode maps are a bit bland and boring, along with most of the items and powerups that you use as weapons.
Four Stars
The controls for the game are tight, being simple and easy to learn and use. Mastering the game will be hard, however, as the computer is very good and very mean. You will need to quickly learn techniques like drift boosting in order to win in the advanced stages and online, which only features racing and not battlemode.
Overall, the main racing game is awesome and perfect for any Mario Kart or SEGA fan.
