Shu and his friends return in a true sequel to Blue Dragon. Check out our review to see if this new game can break out from its past shadows!

All your favourite characters from the Blue Dragon series return in an epic RPG game for the DS! If you had played Blue Dragon Plus, a Real Time Strategy game, and was disappointed, Awakened Shadow will pick you right up! Not only is the RPG styled game more appropriate for the series, but the story is much better this time around!

Two Years Later...

The story in Awakened Shadow takes place two years after the original Blue Dragon story. You play as a custom character that you create yourself. Having just woken up with no recent memories, you find that you are one of the few people left who can still use shadow magic. Eventually, you join Shu, Klute, Jiro, and their friends to save the world.

Your character can be male or female. You can change the facial features and even the voice of the character! As you find weapons and armor in the game, you can equip them and further change your appearance in game! Even more interesting is the family emblem that you get to design. This emblem is not just for looks, it affects your stats as well!

Overshadowing Previous Games

Aside from really cool customizations, Blue Dragon: Awakened Shadow really works hard to go above and beyond previous games. The controls are great and easy to use and you can even customize the magic menu, which is useful since all battles are done in real time. There is a lot of content in the game, about 30 hours worth for just the main storyline. There is also online multiplayer where you can join up with two other friends for boss battles.

The only place where Awakened Shadow lags is during some battles, where there can be noticeable slowdown. Also, battles can get a bit tedious over time. The game moves along through main and side quests. If you like doing quests and jobs in RPG, or if you are a big Blue Dragon fan, then you will love this game.
