Amanda Crew Bio

Aug 08, 2010

Birthdate:: June 5, 1986
Birthplace: Langley, British Columbia, Canada

Amanda Crew is the lucky young actress who landed the starring role opposite Zac Efron in Charlie St. Cloud. Learn all about her in her new Kidzworld bio!

Amanda was a shy kid, but it didn’t take long for her to discover a love of performing. She got into acting early—her high school film and television program led to professional training then an agent, then guest roles on TV! Amanda appeared on shows like Smallville and Life As We Know It, then scored a movie role in Final Destination 3. She also made a memorable cameo alongside Amanda Bynes in “She’s The Man.” But Amanda’s biggest role to date is starring alongside Hollywood heartthrob Zac Efron in Charlie St. Cloud.

Charlie St. Cloud

Amanda plays Tess, Charlie’s high school friend who’s about to sail by herself around the world. Tess and Charlie falls in love, but Charlie’s complicated feelings for his dead brother don’t make their relationship easy.

Amanda says she wanted to play Tess because it’s hard to find strong roles for actresses her age. “A lot of the time,” she says, “it’s just the pretty girl who serves as the love interest and that’s it. What I loved about this character was that she’s such a strong, independent woman who knows what she wants in life. She’s unapologetic about it. She has these goals and she’s going for it. I think that’s a great role model for girls.”

Working With Zac Efron

Dozens of actresses wanted for the role of Tess, but Amanda was the lucky one who had the most chemistry with Zac Efron during her audition reading. “He’s a dreamboat,” Amanda says of Zac. “All of a sudden I’m turning into a 12-year-old girl and giggling. ‘Where did that laugh come from?’ But he puts you at ease so quickly.” Amanda got to know Zac on set and says, “He’s just so down to Earth. He’s genuine, he’s humble, he’s normal and he [has] no ego. I didn’t know him before he had all this success but I feel like the person I’m meeting today is the same person as before all the success hit him.”
