So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Finale :: Winner Announced

It’s been a season unlike any other. Five dancers were injured on five consecutive weeks, dancers with so much potential that they could have won the competition. And never has So You Think You Can Dance had so much talent on one stage. From the addition of the all-stars, to the raw ability of the Top 11 dancers, season 7 was definitely the most exciting season yet.

The Top 3 Dancers

This week on the finale, it all came down to our Top 3 most talented dancers: Robert, Lauren and Kent. But only one could be named America’s Favorite Dancer. After Alex Wong injured his Achilles tendon and was forced to leave the competition, Kent took has place as the favorite to win. But as the weeks went on, Robert stopped landing in the bottom 3 and the judges noticed his unbelievable talent. And Lauren, the only remaining girl in the competition, rose up, proving that no dance style could defeat her. The judges complimented her flawless dancing, which gave her a leg up in the competition.

The Performances

On Wednesday night, the dancers each performed 4 routines (talk about exhausting!). Kent began with a Bollywood routine with all-star Lauren, followed by jazz with Lauren, contemporary with Allison, and a new style called Maleous with Robert. Lauren began with a hip-hop with Twitch, contemporary with Robert, jazz with Kent, and a cha-cha with Pasha. Finally, Robert performed jazz with Mark, contemporary with Lauren, broadway/jazz with Kathryn, and Malevous with Kent.

The Surprise Guest

Ellen Degeneres surprised America, when she turned up to take Alex Wong’s place in a tribute rendition to his hip-hop routine with Twitch. And for a woman over 50, she definitely held her own! Finally, the winner was announced:

  • First: Lauren
  • Second: Kent
  • Third: Robert

“Instruction in world history in the so-called high schools is even today in a very sorry condition. Few teachers understand that the study of history can never be to learn historical dates and events by heart and recite them by rote; that what matters is not whether the child knows exactly when this battle or that was fought, when a general was born, or even when a monarch (usually a very insignificant one) came into the crown of his forefathers. No, by the living God, this is very unimportant. To 'learn' history means to seek and find the forces which are the causes leading to those effects which we subsequently perceive as historical events.”
