Tennis :: The US Open 2010

Aug 29, 2010

Big time tennis starts today! It’s the last Grand Slam Tennis event of the year happening in the biggest city in the world, the Big Apple, New York City… it’s the 2010 US Open. Of course, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer are the usual top 1 and 2 seeds on the men’s side, but on the women’s side, the Williams sisters won’t be favored to win.

Surgery for Serena

No SerenaNo Serena

If you haven’t heard about Serena Williams, she has a big cut on her foot that required surgery leaving her bed-stricken for the US Open. Apparently she stepped on a broken glass at a restaurant of all places. The accident happened in Munich Germany, shortly after Serena won Wimbleton. With Serena out, that opens up the doors for all the other girls who are usually dominated by Serena’s unstoppable serve and perfect baseline play.

Venting Venus

The Door is OpenThe Door is Open

Serena’s sister Venus is ranked number 3 right now so no one is predicting her to win the US Open. A lot of critics are saying that she has the talent to win, but she has been suffering from mental errors. Well I think with her sister out of action, this is the perfect time for her to step up her game and take the Final.

Never say Never Nadal

Rafa's DreamsRafa's Dreams

Rafael has never won the US Open, so is this his year? Rafael has won the last two Grand Slam tournaments in Men’s Tennis quite handsomely. He always dominates the French open because he is the master of the clay court. But then he won Wimbleton on the fastest grass courts of the world. So is he ready to win his first US Open. He has said that he doesn’t do well at the US Open because there is too much wind on the central court and he is not used to it. I guess he’ll need some help from mother nature if he wants to win 3 straight grand slams.
