From PeeWii to Pro, you can play as your favourite NHL player at all levels in EAs new NHL Slapshot game for the Wii.

If you are missing the arcade-like playstyle and feel of EA's NHL series, you may be interested in their new game, NHL Slapshot.

Plastic Sticks and Hot Shots

NHL Slapshot comes with one plastic hockey stick that you put the wiimote and nunchuk into. You use the nunchuk to move your player and aim your shots and the A button to pass. Everything else is done with the stick!

Face-offs, dumping and shooting the puck, dekeing, and even body checking are done with real motions. You can even do tricks like a spinorama to get around defenders. There will be times when the controls might frustrate you, but overall they respond fairly well. If you do a real beauty of a slapshot, you might even set the puck on fire!

PeeWii to Pro

NHL Slapshot features four levels of play, from the young Peewees to the big time pros. You can play as the great one, Wayne Gretzky, or as one of hundreds current NHL stars. If you play at the Peewee level, you'll get treated to young cartoony version of the players with easier settings. If you play at the pro level, you'll get great mature-looking graphics and the game gets harder.

Overall, NHL Slapshot is a great game for hockey fans that are just getting into the video game version of the sport. There are lots of tips and you can break down the game into smaller goals so that you can learn the ins and outs. You can even get upgrades for your characters or let the computer move your player for you and just focus on shooting!

The only downside is that there is no online feature for the game. Also, when you get tired of playing hockey, it can be annoying to get your wiimote out of the plastic stick. Still, Slapshot is a simple and fun game that does well as a standalone hockey game.
