America's Next Top Model Cycle 15 :: Episode 2

Sep 15, 2010

On this week’s episode of America’s Next Top Model cycle 15, the top 14 girls settled into their house in Venice Beach, California. But the competition began immediately, and their first task was one of the most frightening challenges yet. They walked in a Diane von Furstenberg fashion show which took place on a transparent runway four storeys in the air. This fashion show dished up some trouble for the girls, particularly one who had to walk without her glasses.

Hurtful Words

Next the girls headed into their first photo shoot. But for one girl, it would be her last. They each had to think of a word that haunted them in the past, a word that people used to bully them. To show that the girls had overcome the name-calling, those words were painted all over their bodies, along with an opposite, empowering word.

Weight Wars

Most of the girls struggled with the photo shoot, appearing too awkward or needing too much direction from the photographer (Deborah Anderson). Conestant Anamaria struggled because of her weight. While she loves seeing her bones and muscles in the mirror, the photographer found it difficult (if not disturbing) to photograph such a skinny model. Anamaria, the most stubborn and conceited model of the bunch, didn’t see her problem.

There’s Such a Thing as Too Skinny

When the girls filed into the judging room, Tyra and the panel found the same problem with Anamaria: they could see her bones in almost every photo. They chose the one picture in which she appeared covered up. Tyra tried to explain that models shouldn’t be so thing. Health equals beauty. And as a result, Anamaria was sent home.
