This week, Glee gave us another themed episode, similar to last season’s Madonna-themed one. However, this time Glee focused on pop icon Britney Spears, featuring classics like “Me Against the Music,” “Stronger” and “Toxic.” The episode’s storyline was tied together with the guest appearance of John Stamos (of Full House fame), who is Emma’s dentist boyfriend. While offering his dental services to several glee club members, anesthesia-induced fantasies ensue (all Britney related, of course).
Britney and Brittany
Appropriately enough, the main focus of this week’s episode was on Brittany (the cheerleader, not Spears). For a character that is usually in the background, the episode really allowed her to show her musical talent and dance experience. The Britney Spears look-a-like began the fantasy sequence with her rendition of “I’m a Slave 4 U,” and dressed in a variety of classic Britney costumes throughout her multiple solo performances this episode.
Fin and Rachel’s blossoming romance was also at the heart of the episode. Both characters were feeling insecure; Fin was worried about his level of popularity after being kicked of the football team and Rachel was just being, well, Rachel. They both took this insecurity out on each other, and Rachel even gave Fin an ultimatum: choose football or me. By the end of the episode they work it out and their relationship seems to be even stronger after Rachel serenades Fin with “The Only Exception” by Paramore.
Gimme more Britney Spears, that is. For an episode dedicated to her music, it was severely lacking in actual Britney appearances. The pop vixen appeared on screen for barely a minute.
Next week on Glee, the club finds religion and Kurt’s dad is in the hospital. Stay tuned for more Glee!
