Pokemon Black and White Game Preview

Feb 17, 2011

Pokemon Black and White is arriving in early March with a brand new area, Unova, and lots of new pokemon to catch and train.

New School

There will be a whopping total of 156 new pokemon arriving with Black and White, making the grand total 649. You may already know the starting pokemon: Snivy the grass lizard, Tepig the fire pig, and Oshawott the water otter. Black players will have access to the legendary pokemon, Zekrom, while White players will see Reshiram in their game.

For the majority of the game, you will only see the new pokemon. It isn't until after you have beaten the Elite Four and the Champion that you will gain access to a new area and will be able to catch pokemon from previous games.

New Turf

Unlike previous pokemon games, which were set in Japan, Black and White puts you in a replica of New York, including the famous Brooklyn bridge (which is called Skyarrow Bridge in the game). Along with awesome cutscenes, the game will go through four seasons, with each season blocking off certain areas and opening new ones. Some pokemon can only be found at certain times of year and others will have different apperances depending on the season.

Triple New

There is a new way to fight as well. There is 3on3 battles, where positioning becomes super important, and also Rotation battle, where you have three pokemon ready and can switch between them every turn if you want. Pokemon now have combination moves that work together to produce powerful attacks. Battle animation is more dynamic and cool and you can have double battles against wild pokemon too!

There is still more that hasn't been officially announced for [kwlink 1382]North America[/kwlink] yet, including the online Dream World that you can access from your home computer and various wireless multiplayer modes.
