Bambi Diamond Edition

Bambi Diamond Edition - Reviewed by Kidzworld on Feb 28, 2011

Bambi, a Disney animated classic, is coming out in Blu-Ray/DVD Diamond Edition March 1. The movie may have been made waaay back in 1942, but because it teaches us so much about the basic lessons of life, it seems like a pretty perfect fit for 2011.

The Story

Disney’s Bambi covers a year in the life of a young white-tailed deer in the forest. Of course, a year in YOUR life wouldn’t really cover TOO many changes, but for a deer like Bambi, it’s a long time. In fact, you’ll first meet him in the film when he’s just born. Then, you’ll get to know him as he takes his first wobbly steps, makes his first new friends (especially a fuzzy gray bunny named Thumper and a sweet little skunk named Flower) and, tragically, loses his mom when hunters come into the woods. Finally, you’ll follow “dear” Bambi as he falls in love for the first time…

The Sounds & The Silence

Here’s a fun fact about Bambi: the entire movie includes less than 1,000 spoken words! Instead, there are lots of “action” scenes (from the shooting of Bambi’s mother to little Bambi trying to stand up on slippery ice for the first time) that simply unfold to an amazing musical soundtrack in the background.

HOWEVER (and here’s another little Bambi fun fact to add to your collection): the film may very well have been the first to popularize the word ”twitter”, before Twitter became a website and in a way that didn’t refer to the sound that a bird makes. Bambi’s Friend Owl tells the young deer and his friends what “twitterpated” means: “Nearly everybody gets twitterpated in the springtime. For example: You're walking along, minding your own business. You're looking neither to the left, nor to the right, when all of a sudden you run smack into a pretty face. Woo-woo! You begin to get weak in the knees. Your head's in a whirl. And then you feel light as a feather, and before you know it, you're walking on air. And then you know what? You're knocked for a loop, and you completely lose your head!”
