The Mogadorians

Number Four (Alex Pettyfer) and his guardian, Henri (Timothy Olyphant), have been on the run for as long as Number Four can remember. After his planet, Lorien, was invaded by an evil race of aliens called Mogadorians (Mogs), Number Four and eight other children, along with their guardians, escaped Lorien and sought refuge on Earth. The children are gifted, each destined to develop powers called Legacies that will help them fight the Mogadorians. But the Mogs are after them. The kids live separately so that the Mogs must kill them in order. Number Three just died. Now they’re after Number Four.

Living in Paradise

They’re on the run again, moving to the rainy town of Paradise, Ohio, where Number Four goes by the name John Smith. Despite Henri’s wishes, he attends school and meets Sarah (Dianna Argon)—the girl of his dreams. There’s only one problem. The quarterback on the football team, Mark, isn’t ready to except that his and Sarah’s relationship is over. And when he sees John and Sarah together, he gets revenge.

Legacies

John and his new friend Sam (Callan McAuliffe) become easy targets for Mark’s bullying. But John won’t sit back and take it, especially now that his Legacies are beginning to develop. He risks unnecessary attention by fighting Mark and his friends...and winning.

Conspiracy Theories

When Sam sees John fight, he knows something is up. He and his dad were conspiracy theorists before his dad went missing. And he knows an alien when he sees one. John is forced to tell him the truth. When Henri is taken hostage by other conspiracy theorists who are being blackmailed by the Mogadorians, John needs Sam’s help to save him.

The Bottom Line

I Am Number Four is both a fantastic book and a great movie. But there are a lot of discrepancies between the two. Climaxes were changed, deaths came in the wrong order, seemingly important pieces were left out. But even though many things got lost in translation, the movie was still exciting (and for the most part well cast), and it leaves you craving more.
