The Most Hated Team : Duke Bluedevils

Jul 10, 2018

The Duke Bluedevils are the most hated team in the NCAA College Basketball League. Well how come?! They’re ranked #1 like almost every year. Well, before you go out and buy yourself some blue body paint, don’t get too hasty… you might not like Duke just like millions of other basketball fans. Let’s figure out why everyone hates Duke.

Duke Domination

Cheering for the Duke Bluedevils is much like cheering for the New York Yankees or the Miami Heat. Teams full of superstars that play for money don’t have much heart and soul. Unfortunately for Duke, they seem to be losing the power they had in the 1990s, and it seems like the hate they produced might be the reason why star basketball players are migrating to other teams now.

Cameron Crazy Conceit

The biggest reason why people hate Duke has to be the obnoxious Cameron Crazies. They’re kind of weird. It’s like you can’t be a normal chilled-out hoops fan if you want to cheer for Duke. You have to camp outside the ticket stands all night long just to go to a game. And if you’re lucky enough to get into the stadium, you’re considered an outcast if you don’t jump around in your seat throughout the whole game.

Referee Conspiracy

The Duke Bluedevils have been caught several times getting special treatment by the referees during big games. There is a conspiracy that because Duke is a very rich school, they can afford to pay off the referees and the League to cheat and win. That’s probably not true but there are a lot of bad calls that make you go “hmmm”.

TV Torture

Love em or hate em, you’re stuck watching them. The Duke Bluedevils are the most televised team in the NCAA. When there are hundreds of teams in the NCAA, the broadcasters should try to equal the distribution of television. However, the TV networks say that Duke “hate” is actually good for ratings… so don’t expect any changes.
