Robyn Bio

Jul 10, 2018

Electro-pop super star Robyn made an unbelievable comeback last year with her groundbreaking dance record Body Talk Part I, featuring the hit single "Dancing On My Own"! Find out more about the Swedish singer’s rise and return to fame in her Kidzworld bio!

All in the Family

Robyn is actually a stage name, but it’s not that far off from the singing sensation’s real name. She was born Robin Miriam Carlsson, the daughter of two actors who supported and nurtured her creative side. Although we know Robyn for her amazing song writing abilities and vocal abilities, she actually got her start in theater, acting on the stage at age nine as well as doing voice acting in films from her homeland Sweden.

Teen Talent

When Robyn was 12 she recorded the theme song for a popular Swedish television show after being spotted by Swedish pop star Meja during a music workshop done at her schoo. Meja was blown away by Robyn and convinced her label Ricochet Records to sign her straight away. By sixteen Robyn had broken into the mainstream pop industry and signed a deal with RCA Records to release her first album. She did well in Sweden with her first record You’ve Got That Somethin’, and shortly after that burst onto the American pop scene with her hit “Show Me Love” off the album Robyn is Here.

Swedish Sweetheart

Robyn continued to do well and explore new musical territory in Swedish pop music, and through Europe with her records My Truth, Don’t Stop the Music, and The Best of Robyn, but she seemed to disappear off the charts for her American fans. She also took two years to dedicate herself to working with Unicef to help children in need in impoverished countries.

Konichiwa & Coming Back

In 2004 Robyn split with her label because they didn’t like her new electro-pop sound, so she created her own label, Konichiwa Records, so she could express herself freely and create the kind of music she truly loved. Robyn released her first album on her new label, Robyn, featuring the single “Be Mine”, to rave reviews! Landing her back on top of the music scene, collaborating with independent Swedish musicians, as well as big names like Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears (you can hear her backing vocals on "Piece of Me")! Last year she accomplished the monumental feat of putting out three dance albums, Body Talk Part 1, Body Talk Part 2 and Body Talk. She was nominated for a Grammy for her dance hit off the first album “Dancing On My Own.” Robyn said earlier this year that she has enough material to release another album sometime this year, go Robyn!
