Dionne Bromfield Bio

Jul 10, 2018

Singing sensation Dionne Bromfield became famous thanks to the support of godmother Amy Winehouse. Learn more about this British singer’s new hit in her Kidzworld bio!

YouTube Sensation

Fifteen-year-old Dionne Bromfield shot to fame when her godmother, legendary singer Amy Winehouse, suggested they sing a song together and upload it on YouTube. Their rendition of Alicia Keys’ "If I Ain’t Got You" exploded on the Internet, causing a stir in Britain – Dionne’s home – as well as in the U.S.A. Before the video Dionne was a normal teen girl. Now she has been labeled “the next big thing,” and has flourished under Amy Winehouse’s wing. Take a look at her original YouTube performance:

Record Deal

After Dionne’s YouTube video became a success, Amy Winehouse signed the singer to her label Lioness Records. Dionne’s first album, Introducing Dionne Bromfield, was released in October 2009 and was instantly liked. The album includes all cover songs and none of Dionne’s original material. Some of the hits off the album are "Ain’t No Mountain High Enough" and "Mama Said."

In July 2011 Dionne released her second album, Good for the Soul. Unlike the first, this album includes all of Dionne’s original songs and really represents the singer’s unique personality! Singles like "Yeah Right" and "Foolin" have become instant hits, pairing Dionne with other artists like Lil Twist and Diggy Simmons. Dionne also joined forces with Tinchy Stryder (a British rapper) to record the song "Spinnin for 2012," which will be one of the official songs of the 2012 Summer Olympics, to be held in London, England.

TV Personality

Dionne’s singing success lead to her being chosen as the host of Friday Download, which airs in the United Kingdom. Friday Download is a children’s program that features all of the latest trends in fashion, dance, video games and film. Dionne is joined by five other popular teenage celebrities who all take turns introducing their favorite new artists and products.

Amy Winehouse’s Final Performance

Since their YouTube video, Dionne has been working very closely with her godmother Amy Winehouse to develop her voice and learn to play the guitar. Unfortunately, Amy Winehouse died tragically on July 23, 2011. Amy’s last time on stage was July 20 during one of Dionne’s concerts. Due to the upsetting news of Amy’s death, Dionne has cancelled the rest of her tour. Take a look at Dionne and Amy’s final performance together:
