Age of Empires Online, Sword of the Stars II: The Lords of Winter, and Bastion
This summer seems to be riddled with free-to-play PC games and this week is no different, with Age of Empires Online joining the fray. Another PC game, Sword of the Stars II: The Lords of Winter also arrives this week along with Bastion, a very interesting Xbox Live Arcade game from a promising indie developer.
Age of Empires Online
Despite the cartoony art, Age of Empire Online retains the core real time strategy gameplay elements that made the series popular in the first place. The game features several different civilizations, each with their own unique characteristics. For example, the Egyptians is a relgious based civilization with a lot of things based around the priestess unit, who can speed up buildings, buff and heal units, and also cast spells to confuse your opponents. Fans of civilization RTS games will definitely be impressed with this free-to-play PC game.
Sword of the Stars II: The Lords of Winter
The long awaited sequel to Sword of the Stars is finally here! Explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate your foes in this space themed real time strategy game for the PC. The six races from the original game and the expansion packs are back but they are joined by a brand new species, the Suul'ka. Sword of the Stars II: The Lords of Winter will feature an incredible story for all the races as it is revealed that the Suul'ka was manipulating other races behind the scenes and was the true cause of the conflict in the original game.
Bastion is a beautiful RPG game that is very much like a living storybook. Almost everything you do is narrated, from falling off cliffs to random destruction. You wake up in a world struck by disaster and must help build bastions, areas of refuge. Bastion features a complex combat system where you can roll, block, melee and range attack. With enough skill, you can defeat any foe without taking any damage! The game includes co-op and is definitely worth looking at.
