Do a barrel roll! The classic Star Fox 64 game returns with 3D graphics and motion control! See how it performs in Kidzworlds game review.

Fourteen years after the original Star Fox 64 came out on the Nintendo 64, the game has been given a graphics rehaul and sent back out for your enjoyment on the Nintendo 3DS.

Classic Fun with Modern Technology

Star Fox 64 3D definitely lives up to the expectations of fans old and new. The single player campaign has been left relatively untouched. You still battle Andross' forces in space and on different planet surfaces, dealing with bosses and such in a rail shooter-like game. Now, however, you can select any available planet to play in campaign instead of being stuck on one path and needing to restart the game to explore other paths.

Also added is the option of using motion control to fly your Arwing. This works surprisingly well, but you will most likely need to turn off 3D graphics as you'll be moving the 3DS system a lot. This is a shame, as the 3D effects for Star Fox 64 3D is awesome! The traditional controls with the analog circle pad will probably be the preferred controls for veterans.

Classic Fun with Your Friends

The original multiplayer is also included with a few additions. Unfortunately, there is no online play, but you can have four players playing off of just one cartridge. There are new power ups, such as invisibility and the power to swap places with another player, and you can turn these off to have an authentic old-school match.

Overall, the improved graphics and 3D effect is great. The silly animation style from the original game was kept, which may win over fans but might annoy new players. Still, Star Fox 64 3D is worth getting. It may even be worth it to get a Nintendo 3DS if you don't have one already just to play this game. What do you think?
