Nicki Minaj opened the 2011 American Music Awards (AMA) on November 20 with a performance of ‘Super Bass’. Her outfit definitely represented the song – it had two speakers on it! The rest of the evening was packed full of exciting performances from hit artists.
Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera took to the stage to perform their hit song, ‘Moves Like Jagger.’ Maroon 5 also won the award for Favorite Pop or Rock Band. Katy Perry performed an acoustic version of ‘The One That Got Away’, sporting a fabulous hot pink outfit. She even had a pink guitar! Justin Bieber performed his holiday hit ‘Under the Mistletoe’, which is the first single off his new Christmas album. With so many great performances, it is hard to choose a favorite.
Taylor Swift took three of the most prized awards, including Favorite Country Album award, Favorite Female Country Artist (her fourth win in this category) and Artist of the Year. She wore a stunning gold dress that made her shine like a star. British singer Adele had four nominations going into the event, and came out with three wins: Best Female Pop or Rock Artist, Best Pop or Rock Album and Best Adult Contemporary Artist.
Other wins include Nicki Minaj for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, Lady Antebellum for Favorite Country Music Band award and Rihanna for Best Album Award. Katy Perry received a special award of achievement for being the first woman with five number one hits from an album.
