Zac Efron and Taylor Swift provide the voices in The Lorax, an animated film based on Dr. Seuss’ bestselling book. Kidzworld has the movie review!

Thneedville

Ted (Zac Efron) lives in the city of Thneedville - a place where no trees or nature of any kind grows. Because of this, the air is smoggy and the water is toxic, but the citizens don’t know any different. They’ve even been suckered into buying bottled fresh air from the company owned by the city’s most powerful man - O’Hare.

The Ones-ler

Ted’s crush Audrey (Taylor Swift) tells him about real trees that grow in the ground, and how she would love to see one in real life. With the help of his grandma (Betty White), Ted leaves the city walls in search of the Once-ler (Ed Helms), an old man who knows more than his fair share about trees.

The Power of Greed

Over a couple of days, the Once-ler tells Ted the story of trees, and how his Thneed company turned a once rich, colourful, nature-filled landscape into a barren wasteland. During the Once-ler’s story, we learn about the Lorax, the magical guardian of the forest, who warns the Once-ler not to cut down any trees. But his greed gets the better of him. He destroys every last tree, forcing all the animals to find a new home.

The Last Seed

After all these years, only one seed remains. The Ones-ler gives it to Ted to plant into the middle of Thneedville. But O’Hare and his burly sidekicks are onto him. If Ted plants the tree, the citizens will get fresh air for free. O’Hare will stop at nothing to thwart Ted’s plans and save his business.

The Bottom Line

The Lorax, based on a book by Dr. Seuss, is a wonderful family film that discusses a very relevant topic. With so much construction and modern technology, we need to remember the importance of nature. The film is entertaining, but also educational without being preachy. We definitely recommend it!
