Last week Cassie and Adam destroyed their perfect romance in order to save Jake, but unfortunately for Cassie the anti-love liquid they ingested didn’t lessen her feelings for Adam at all, and she spends this episode secretly pining for him. Adam however is too busy getting jealous over Diana’s new boat-faring beau Grant. She ducks out of helping Faye, Melissa and Adam prep for a private dinner at The Boathouse for the high school hockey team to go ice skating with her Aussie hottie, but later finds out that he’s been lying about being the carefree captain of his own boat. Diana isn’t the only one looking to steer clear of spell-casters in her love life. While serving at the dinner, Faye and Melissa vie for the attention of the hottest hockey stud with a little magic man help from Adam, who helps Melissa impress them with her ice intelligence and turns Faye into the Duchess of the dart board by helping her hit bullseye every time.
John Blackwell drops by Cassie’s coffee shop while she’s at work looking to reconnect and check up on her since he knows the potion didn’t live up to potential and she’s still a mess about Adam. Meanwhile a witch hunter named Samuel escapes from Eben and seeks out Jake and Blackwell to let them know that Eben is raising demons with the help of a witch! It comes out that once long ago Blackwell did the very same thing and originally released the demons which her mother Amelia rounded up (explaining the Heather Barnes fiasco), but the ritual requires a sacrifice – and Samuel was on the sacrifice menu. Blackwell tells Cassie to gather the circle and meet him at the clubhouse, but it’s all a ruse to make sure they are out of danger while he tries to draw out the demon that he knows is already in Samuel by trapping him in a circle. The gang figure it out and run to Blackwell’s aid just in time as Eben knocks him out from behind. The circle accidentally release the demon in Samuel from the circle and Cassie takes her shot at trying to kill him on her own, but Blackwell saves her and destroys the demon before he can choke her to death, but reveals to the circle that he does still have magic despite what he’s been telling them. Eben absorbs the demon and runs away.
Blackwell gathers the circle and gives them an inspiring speech about how staying away from magic for 16 years and hiding from the witch hunters was not the answer, and that they must gather all the crystals and fit them together in order to have enough power to defeat the witch hunters. The circle all go their separate ways, Adam drops off Cassie and gives her a heartwarming talk about how brave she was and how he wishes he remembered what they had, and Diana’s dude from down-under Grant is waiting on her doorstep with an apology for lying.
In the final scene we see Blackwell digging up a grave with a skeleton inside – but if he claims he never killed anyone for the demon sacrifice all those years ago, then whose bones are in the coffin?
