American Idol: Season 11, Week 14 :: 7 Finalists Compete Again

Apr 19, 2012

This week on American Idol (Season 11, Week 14), the Top 7 contestants performed two songs each, hoping to win America’s hearts. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “7 Finalists Compete Again,” which aired on April 18, 2012, to discover what you missed.

After last week’s save, the Top 7 contestants are still in play. Each of them performed two songs last night - the first from after the millennium, and the second from the soul train era.

Hollie Cavanagh

Hollie kicked it off with Adele’s Rolling in the Deep. Contestants who have sang Adele’s songs over the course of this season have been notoriously criticised, so choosing this song was definitely a risk. Fortunately, she received positive feedback from this judges on both this and her soul train song.

Colton Dixon

Colton struggled last night. His first performance, singing Bad Romance by Lady Gaga was decent, but his second song, which he tried to modernize, came off pitchy and not up to par.

Elise Testone

Elise had two great performances last night. She sang No One by Alicia Keys and Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye. Even though she always sings with so much passion (and last night was no exception) Jennifer Lopez stated that she doesn’t put enough emotion into her performances and that’s why America isn’t connecting with her. Because Elise has been wavering in the bottom three, we think J-Lo might have talked America out of voting for her.

Jessica Sanchez

Jessica rocked it out this week with Fallin’ by Alicia Keys and Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding. Like always, the songs sounded like they were written for her.

Phillip Phillips

Phillip changed it up a bit this week with a remake of Usher’s U Got It Bad. Both this song and his soul train selection gave Jennifer tingles. It’s quite obvious that she has a massive crush on Phillip and she’s not afraid to show it.

Skylar Laine

Skylar really impressed the judges this week with her performances. She remade Born This Way by Lady Gaga into an awesome country tune. Both performances earned her high praise.

Joshua Ledet

Like always, Joshua gave two unforgettable performances: the first was past Idol winner Fantasia’s I Believe, and the second was A Change Is Gonna Come

Elimination

This week's elimination may have come as a shock to the boy-crazy fans out there. While Hollie, Elise and Colton wound up in the bottom three, it was Colton's poor song choice that ended his journey on American Idol.
