The Vampire Diaries: Season 3, Episode 20 :: Do Not Go Gentle

Apr 26, 2012

This week on The Vampire Diaries (Season 3, Episode 20), it’s the Decade Dance. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “Do Not Go Gentle”, which aired April 26, 2012, to discover what you missed.

Klaus’s mother (Esther) and “evil” Alaric share their hatred for vampires and formulate a plan to kill them all. If they combine Alaric’s magic ring with the stake made out of white ash, the stake can never be destroyed. But, that’s not the end of it. Esther wants to harness Alaric’s evil side and turn him into the strongest vampire killer ever. To do this, she needs Elena’s blood. Since Elena won’t go along with the plan, Esther kidnaps her.

Decade Dance

It’s the decade dance at the high school, and this year’s theme is the 1920s. It seems Elena has changed her mind since last week’s hook up with Damon. This week she decides to invite Stefan to the dance. Meanwhile, Klaus is still pining away over Caroline. He asks her to dance, making Tyler insanely jealous. But, Caroline has to go along with the plan so Klaus doesn’t find out that Tyler isn’t linked to him anymore.

Damon shows up at the high school with a plan to save Alaric. When the gang tries to leave, they discover that Esther has trapped them all inside using a salt ring. Bonnie uses her magic to try to erase the ring, but it doesn’t work. Since humans are the only ones who can leave the ring, Matt and Jeremy head out to find Alaric and Elena. They stop Esther just in time for Alaric to kill her.

Transformation

If Alaric goes through with the transformation that Esther had planned, he won’t be able to control himself. He decides to let himself die instead. In a very strange turn of events, Bonnie wakes up from a nightmare not quite feeling right. Turns out, she is being controlled by Esther (who we thought was dead!). She finds Alaric, who is slowly dying, and feeds him her blood. This quickly brings him back to life, now as a vampire.

Have Your Say

What will Alaric do now that he has more power? Is anyone safe? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

It included a lot of mature themes and it really connects with today's older youth. You mean violence wise? Not just that, but the show tells the stories of the characters finding themselves. Take Asami for example. A lot of people have a late relative and another relative involved in some kind of trouble. She had her relationships AND family business to take care of, which relates to some of today's youth who feel like they have the whole world on their shoulders. They're starting to have to take responsibility for things they can hardly manage, and seeing the triumph of a character like Asami is truly inspiring. Her mother's dead, her father's in prison, her boyfriend was stolen from her, and her business nearly failed. But she did not give up, which sends a positive message to today's generation of teens. Mako was not stolen from Asami he just chose Korra and everyone knows that thats what people wanted. As messed up as that sounds its the truth.
