Andrew Garfield Bio

Jul 31, 2012

English actor Andrew Garfield stars in the new comic book action movie The Amazing Spider-Man as Peter Parker alongside Emma Stone, but even though the 28-year-old rising star may seem new to most viewers he is no stranger to the big screen. Find out more in his Kidzworld Bio.

L.A. to the U.K.

Andrew Russell Garfield was actually born in Los Angeles, his family is Jewish and  his mother comes from England but his father is American. They moved to England when he was just three years old. Andrew’s parents ran a small interior design business once they moved to Essex. He has an older brother who became a doctor and as a kid thought that he might want to study business but instead fell in love with acting.

Stage to Screen

Andrew first started taking acting classes when he was 12 years old and soon after began working as a stage actor after wowing people with his performances in youth productions.  In 2004 he won Best Newcomer at The Manchester Evening Standard Theater Awards and in 2006 won the Outstanding Newcomer Award. It wasn’t long after that he made the jump onto the small screen, appearing in the British TV shows Sugar Rush and Doctor Who.

The Amazing Spider-Man

The Amazing Spider-Man may seem like Andrew’s big break, but he has been making waves on the silver screen for some time, appearing in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Never Let Me Go, The Other Boleyn Girl and even earning a Gold Globe nod for Best Supporting Actor and a BAFTA Award nomination for his role in The Social Network. He gushed about getting the role:

"This is a beloved character and, you know, ironically, I'm gonna be the person in the audience going, 'Who cast this English fool?'"
