Fall TV Preview: Beauty and the Beast

Sep 05, 2012

This fall The CW is putting a gritty new spin on an age old fairy tale by dragging Beauty in the Beast into the crime-ridden streets of 21st century New York. Find out more in the Kidzworld TV Preview of Beauty and the Beast.

The Story

Catherine Chandler (Kristin Kreuk), a smart, savvy no-nonsense NYC Homicide Detective, is haunted by her tragic past. As a teenager she experienced the horror of watching her mother's murder at hands of two gunmen, and would have suffered the same fate if something (or someone) hadn't mysteriously saved her life. Catherine knows that it wasn't an animal that attacked those assassins, but her story is so outlandish that no one has ever believed her claim that it was a strange and scary different type of human.

Years later while investigating a murder with her partner Tess (Nina Lisandrello) a set of fingerprints lead her right to Vincent Keller (Jay Ryan), a handsome Doctor who was reported dead years ago while serving in the Afghanistan war, but much to her surprise when she digs deeper the good Doctor isn't dead at all and has been hiding on the fringes of society because of a condition that turns him into a terrifying beast when he gets angry. And guess what, the doctor has another secret, he's been watching over Cat for years since her mother's murder!

Jay Ryan: New Zealand-native Jay Ryan will be getting "wild" this fall  as the 'Beast', otherwise known as Doctor Vincent Keller, a man living off the grid and on the outskirts of society because of his animal-like affliction, but who harbors a deep interest in Detective Chandler because their shared past. Jay is no stranger to TV having appeared for years on the New Zealand TV show Neighbours, as well as Terra Nova, Young Hercules and Xena: Warrior Princess

The two women make a great team, working lots of homicides investigations together, and the work has brought them close as friends.Nina has previously appeared on the critically-acclaimed HBO show Nurse Jackie as well as Law and Order, Conviction and Mercy.

'We prefer to do things comfortably.'But I don't want comfort. I want God, I want poetry, I want real danger, I want freedom, I want goodness. I want sin.'In fact,' said Mustapha Mond, 'you're claiming the right to be unhappy. Not to mention the right to grow old and ugly and impotent; the right to have ######## and cancer, the right to have too little to eat; the right to be lousy; the right to live in constant apprehension of what may happen tomorrow; the right to catch typhoid; the right to be tortured by unspeakable pains of every kind.' There was a long silence.I claim them all,' said the Savage at last.Mustapha Mond shrugged his shoulders. 'You're welcome,' he said.”  I freaking LOVE Brave New World! It's one of the best books I've ever read, and that conversation between the Controller and John is my favorite part  [s:sm3/1jw1]
