The Vampire Diaries: Season 4, Episode 6 :: We All Go a Little Mad Sometimes

Hallucination
At the end of last episode, Elena was having serious hallucinations. Turns out, the hallucinations are a result of her killing a vampire hunter. Elena starts seeing Connor, the vampire hunter she killed. She accidentally mistakes Jeremy for him and stabs him. Luckily, Jeremy had his ring to save him. Elena is still upset with Stefan because he is working with Klaus, she so calls Damon instead. But, Stefan shows up anyways.
Klaus tells Stefan that he went through a similar experience with hallucinations, only his lasted for years after he killed all of the original Brotherhood of the Five. Vampire hunters are cursed by witches to kill vampires; if they don’t fulfill their duties, they will take down the person that killed them, meaning Connor’s death won’t prevent him from making Elena his final vampire kill. As soon as Elena steps outside, Klaus takes her before the Salvatore brothers can stop him.
The Mark
Jeremy, Matt and April are helping Professor Shane with an exhibit on the occult. While they are there, Jeremy confides in Matt and tells him he can see Connor’s tattoos on himself. Bonnie goes to Professor Shane and asks him for help with Elena and Jeremy. Shane says that in order to help Elena, Jeremy needs to kill a vampire. Klaus agrees to give up one of his vampire/werewolf hybrids if Caroline will go on a date with him.
The Escape
Klaus shows up at Tyler’s house, upset that his hybrid wasn’t able to kill Connor and that Elena did instead. While he is there, Caroline shows up with a box of Tyler’s things. Does this mean they are breaking up? Nope, they are just trying to make Klaus think they are. Stefan needs Tyler and Hayley’s help to unsire the rest of the hybrids so he can help Elena escape. Caroline distracts Klaus while Stefan uses one of the hybrids to gain access to Elena. But, she mistakes him for Connor, stabs him and run away.
Elena’s hallucinations lead her to the bridge where she died last summer. She sees her dead mother and drops her daylight ring into the water. But, just before it’s too late, Damon steps in to save the day. He rescues Elena and her ring. Damon tells Elena the reason Stefan has been lying to her is that Klaus and Stefan are trying to find the cure for vampirism, which would return her to her old self.
Stefan and Elena finally talk about their rocky relationship. Stefan says he has noticed Damon is able to get through to Elena in ways he can’t. Elena admits that the girl she has become is different, and that who she wants is different too. Her feelings for Damon have been magnified. The big shock? Elena and Stefan break up.
