So You Think You Can Dance: Season 10, Week 1 :: LA Auditions

May 15, 2013

This week on So You Think You Can Dance (Season 10, Week 1), the judges discover some amazing dancers in Los Angeles! Read Kidzworld’s recap of the “LA Auditions,” which aired on May 14th, 2013, to discover what you missed.

Los Angeles Auditions

There was so much talent at the LA auditions that SYTYCD didn't bother to air any bad dancers. First up was 18-year-old street performer Du-Shaunt "Fik-Shun" Stegall. He impressed the judges with his fresh b-boy moves and was happy to receive a ticket to Las Vegas, his hometown. Next was 19-year-old Malece Miller. The judges loved her unique look - her bleached blond boy cut and cabbage patch doll face - as well as her dancing.

The next to audition was latin ballroom dancer Paul Karmiryan, whose story was a SYTYCD first. He took part in Armenia's SYTYCD and won! Now he hopes to triumph in the USA! After him, the judges were mesmerized by 20-year-old Elijah Laurent, who used a black tulle neck detail to give his performance a more haunting and artistic look. Then 20-year-old Taylor Ward hit the stage, but just before her audition, she dislocated her knee joint while practicing her routine. She still gave it her all anyway and earned a spot in the choreography round before being sent to Vegas.

Detriot Auditions

The first contestant in Detroit, 21-year-old b-boy Jade Zuberi, planned to "bend reality' during his audition in front of Mary Murphy, Nigel Lythgoe and guest judge Twitch. And Twitch, who is a b-boy himself, called it one of the best auditions he'd ever seen. Following him was Amy Yakima. After admiting that her father takes basic jazz classes, Nigel called him to the stage to perform before Amy's audition.

The street performers/b-boys really brought it this week. The judges found another talent in Will "Sysko" Green. After admiting he can do an awesome Hip Roll, he invited Mary on stage to perform with her. Next, 18-year-old Tyrone Cobham Jr. performed a tap routine. Mary called it the best routine she's ever seen on SYTYCD (does she mean the best tap routine, or best routine in general? I guess we'll never know!) Following him were four guys from a male exotic dancer group, but only one, known as Price Charming, made it to Vegas.
