Dear Dish-it: How Do I Apply Make-up Correctly?

Dear Dish-it,

How do I put make-up on the right way? I’ve been trying to do it correctly, but it always winds up being too thick or too light. All my friends are good at it and I’m embarrassed to ask them for help.

Clown Face

Dear Clown Face,

There’s no right or wrong way to apply make-up. There are tons of different techniques that offer many different looks. The first step is to determine whether you’re going for a simple, daytime natural look, a smoky night-on-the-town look, or something in between. All you have to do is look up techniques on the internet and you should find lots of step-by-step instruction guides.

Some Tips

Eyeliner can make or break a look. If you apply too much it can make you appear Goth or punk. It’s important to apply it correctly. Using small, short strokes, guide your pencil along the top lid as close to the lash line as you can get. You can smooth this out later using a cue tip. Don’t apply eyeliner to your bottom lid. This can look too harsh, and, depending on your eyeliner, can cause your make-up to run or smudge beneath your eyes.

In place of eyeliner, apply a thin layer of black waterproof mascara to your lower lashes to make your eyes pop. Also apply mascara to your upper lashes for a full feminine look. For daytime, use regular black mascara, but for a more dramatic nighttime look, choose something with lash extension.

Using too much blush can totally destroy a look. You don’t want to look like a clown, as you call yourself. Simply apply a small amount of pink blush on the apples of your cheeks.

Lipstick vs. Lip Gloss

Choosing a lip color depends on your eye make-up. If you’ve created a dark and smoky or colored look with eye shadow, choose a more neutral lip color, either a gloss or a lipstick that enhances rather than changes the natural color of your lips. Going bold with both the eyes and the lips will give you that clownish look again. It’s just too much. However, if you’ve applied a light, natural look to your eyes, you can get away with a bold lipstick. But don’t choose bright red or hot pink unless you’re comfortable with it and it doesn’t clash with your outfit.

Friends grow apart as we grow up and change at different rates. It's fine to stop being friends, but it doesn't have to be in a mean way. The best thing to do is talk to her (nicely). You don't have to tell her she's being childish or you feel as if you've matured more. That would be terrible. Talk about things you guys like to do in common or make plans to try new things together. Or don't mention it at all, but don't just begin ignoring her. Eventually the friendship will fade the less time you spend together.

You should be nice to her. If you have to break the news gently don't make her feel bad just talk to her about and see what she says

My bff and I were best friends but weve grown apart im getting older and she still wants to do kid stuff I have new friends now I feel like im being mean to her but like doesn't she get the memo I feel both guilty and mad:} Gosh.... put the shoe on  the other foot and see how would you feel if your bff done this on you. You has been bffs for the long time [Im guessing] and your maturing faster than her.  I agrees you are being mean to her if you doesnt discuss how your feeling with her and ignoring / avoiding her or whatever your doing.    She has been the good friend to you and she deserves to understand if you is growing up faster than her.  I really feels sad for how she could be feeling right now. She didnt do anything wrong.  You changed. Not her. Please be nice to your friend/ex friend and let her down gently [if you really has to] ^^ Me opinion

Don't worry about it. Friends grow apart. That's how things go. Just talk to her about it, she'll understand.
