Lyle Lovett :: Smile CD Review
Courtesy of MCAQuick! What was the best thing about that little Disney/Pixar flick,
Toy Story? I mean after Buzz, Woody and the killer animation. Give? Well, space cadet, I'm here to tell ya it was that toe-tappin' tune
You've Got A Friend In Me. And, the voice behind that little ditty (besides its composer, Randy Newman,) is the extraordinary Lyle Lovett. It seems this long, tall Texan has been hitchin' his vocal wagon to a ton of great songs, and
great movies, over the last 10 years. From
Stuart Little (Walking Tall,) to
Mumford (Till It Shines, with Keb Mo,) to
Hope Floats (Smile.) Lyle Lovett has crafted a career out of smart songs and even smarter collaborations. Except for that whole
Julia Roberts marriage thang!
It Will Make You Smile
Now all his cinematic songs are available on Smile: A Collection of Songs from the Movies. It's one cool CD. Not a boyband cool or a harmonious, rapper cool, I'll give ya that. But, more like that feeling when, during a summer with the heat wave that had all the thermometers poppin', out of nowhere came a breeze and it made everything alright. Lyle Lovett and Smile make everything alright.
