Book Review - With Love from Spain, Melanie Martin
Courtesy of Random House Author: Carol Weston
Your fave jet-setter is back for more adventure and this time she's headed to Spain. Melanie Martin and the fam are spending spring break checking out museums, lounging on the beach, taking lots of siestas and meeting up with Mel's mom's old boyfriend, Antonionio. If you think that sounds like trouble, you're right!
With Love from Spain - La Descripción (The Overview)
What would happen if on your
family vacation, your mom met up with her
old flame for some quality catching up? Think it would be
weird? Well, Melanie's about to find out! When they first
arrive, Melanie starts
plotting ways to keep her mom and Antonio apart - but then she meets
Miguel, Antonio's son, and her whole
perspective changes. Suddenly Antonio doesn't seem so bad since the more time they
spend with him, the more time she gets to spend with Miguel. But just how much Antonio time is
Mel's dad willing to take?
With Love from Spain - El Bueno (The Good)
With Love from Spain, Melanie Martin is a great,
quick read. The entire book is composed of entries from 11 year-old
Melanie Martin's diary. But, before you decide you've had enough of this
novel format, just give it a try. You'll be
hooked by the end of the first couple of
chapters. You're guaranteed to
laugh out loud throughout the book and you may even learn a thing or two. Since the book is set in
Spain, Melanie flexes her linguistic
skills by throwing in as many
Spanish words as she can (don't worry, she includes the pronunciation in brackets beside the word). With Love from Spain is funny and
interesting - a winning
combination.
With Love from Spain - El Malo (The Bad)
While the
phonetics included after all the Spanish words can be useful, they can also be
a pain in the butt. Despite those getting on
your nerves, the book is good enough that you should be able to put up with 'em. Other than that,
With Love from Spain is definitely worth a bit of your
free time.
With Love from Spain - Línea de Fondo (Bottom Line)
Joining Melanie Martin and her fam on their
spring vacation in Spain is just about as much fun as going to Spain on your own! You'll learn all about famous Spanish
artists,
explorers and
royalty, without feeling like you're stuck in some
stuffy history class. In fact, it's more like an
exotic adventure park. Pick a copy up - you won't regret it.
