Celeb Causes - Ted Danson

"Where everybody knows your name, and they like to save the oceans?" No, that isn't the exact theme to the old TV fav Cheers but if one of the stars had his way it might have been. Actor Ted Danson, who played the bar-owner Sam Malone on Cheers is a huge ocean-lover. He is the co-founder of American Oceans Campaign (AOC), an organization devoted to safeguarding the vitality of the oceans and our coastal waters. While some celebs just throw their name along side a charity or cause, Ted Danson has thrown his whole self right into his cause and has even been known to chase senators into elevators trying to get them to listen.

Ted Danson has been successful as both an entertainer and environmentalist. He is now starring on the CBS hit Becker and his oceans work has earned him respect and a high profile in both environmental and political circles. His wife Mary Steenbergen is also an activist and is on the hit show Joan of Arcadia. So this summer, when you're surfing or swimming in the ocean without getting grossed out by sewage or dead fish think of Ted Danson.

Did you know swimming in a polluted ocean can cause nausea, skin rashes and diarrhea?
