Is Picking Your Nose and Eating it Good For You?

We've all been raised to think that what happens in your nose should stay in your nose, but a leading Austrian doctor wants us to rethink that wisdom. He thinks it's not only O.K. to pick you nose and eat it, he thinks it's good for you!

The Case for Picking Your Nose and Eating It

Professor Dr. Friedrich, a lung specialist in Austria, says picking your nose and eating it is healthy for two reasons:
1) "With the finger you can get to places you just can't reach with a handkerchief, keeping your nose far cleaner."
2) "Eating the dry remains of what you pull out is a great way of strengthening the body's immune system. The nose is a filter in which a great deal of bacteria is collected, and when this mixture arrives in the intestines it works just like a medicine."

The Case Against Picking Your Nose and Eating It

Most medical peeps think it's best to just avoid germs (ie. not eat them) to prevent getting sick. That's why they recommend that you wash your hands a lot, keep your fingers out of your nose and eat your vegetables (not your boogers). Plus, there's also the argument that it's just plain gross to pick your nose and eat it.
