Roger Federer, of Switzerland, is the number one ranked male tennis player in the world. Federer started playing tennis when he was eight and grew up idolizing tennis legends, Boris Becker and Pete Sampras. Federer plays with grace, rather than power. He defeats opponents with crafty volleys, clever spins and well-placed serves. He is strongest when he's playing on grass and may struggle at the US Open, which is more suited to a power game. He won both the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2004 and is the number one seeded player at the 2004 Olympic tennis tournament. His feats on the tennis court have made Roger Federer a sports hero in Switzerland and he was the country's flag bearer for the 2004 Summer Olympics.

Lleyton Hewitt of Australia is known for his great topspin lob and fiestiness on the court. In 2001, at the age of 20, he won the US Open and became the youngest player in history to be ranked number one in the world. The Australian tennis star is one of the most popular athletes in Australia and appeared on one of the country's postage stamps in 2002. While Lleyton Hewitt has cooled off over the past couple of years, he still remains one of the top players in the world who has great speed and endurance. He is engaged to female tennis star, Kim Clijsters of Belgium.

Juan Carlos Ferrero is one of the bright young stars in men's tennis. Since turning pro in 1998, the 23 year-old Spaniard has won 11 singles titles, including the 2003 French Open. Juan Carlos Ferrero teamed up with countrymen Carlos Moya and Alex Corretja to help Spain wins its first ever Davis Cup of Tennis in 2000. Ferrero is known for his quickness on the court and is nicknamed the Mosquito because of his speed and small physique. Ferrero lost in the finals of the 2003 US Open to Andy Roddick and but is still a favorite to be playing in the US Open Final again in 2004.
