2005 Major Leage Soccer Preview

Dec 27, 2006
Freddy Adu and the rest of DC United get ready to kickoff another season of Major League Soccer. Kidzworld checks out some of the teams and players to look out for in the road to the 2005 MLS Cup.

Major League Soccer 2005 - What's New?

There will be two new teams playing in Major League Soccer in 2005. Real Salt Lake, who will play in Utah and Chivas USA, who will play in Los Angeles. Both new teams will be in the MLS Western Conference. Chivas USA will play in the Major League Soccer season opener on April 2, 2005. The MLS All-Star Game will also have a new format in 2005. A team of MLS All-Stars will play Fulham of the English Premiership League on July 30th, 2005.

Major League Soccer 2005 - Players To Watch

There will be several MLS stars to keep an eye on this year, including a couple of players who will be making their Major League Soccer debuts.
  • Freddy Adu - Freddy Adu continues to be the poster boy for the MLS. The teenage phenom saw limited action in 2004 but played in every game and finished with five goals - not bad for a 15 year-old! Expect big things from fabulous Freddy in 2005 as DC United tries to defend their cup title.
  • Amado Guevara - The 2004 MLS MVP is determined to bring an MLS Cup title to the Metro Stars this season. Guevara led the MLS in points and assists in 2004 and the creative playmaker from Honduras is expected to do much the same in 2005.
  • Landon Donovan - After failing to make an impact with Bayer Leverkusen of the German League, the US soccer star will be returning to Major League Soccer and will want to prove he's a world-class player. Donovan is expected to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
  • Danny O'Rourke - O'Rourke was the fourth pick in the 2005 MLS Draft and is expected to play a big role in the San Jose Earthquakes midfield this season. The defensive midfielder won back-to-back NCAA titles with Indiana University, so he knows what it takes to be on a championship team.
  • Major League Soccer 2005 - Cup Prediction

DC United should be even stronger in 2005 - especially with a stronger and more experienced Freddy Adu on the team. United should be in the MLS Cup Final but expect them to be knocked off by the LA Galaxy 3-1.
