Book Review - Knights of the Silver Dragon Books 1-3

Who are the Knights of the Silver Dragon?

The Knights of the Silver Dragon books are a series of fantasy adventure novels set in the world of Greyhawk - a fantasy world in the Dungeons & Dragons game. They're about three kids who live in a town called Curston. There's the apprentice wizard Kellach, his younger brother Driskoll and their sneaky friend Moyra. They hang out together and get into all kinds of adventures. Here's the 411 on each book!

Book 1 - Secret of the Spiritkeeper

Author: Matt Forbeck

This is where it all starts with a mysterious murder, a magic sphere and ancient ruins! When Kellach's teacher is found nearly dead, the three kids have to find out what happened and save the day. It's an easy read full of adventure, running from horrible monsters, scary moments and lots of bravery. Definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of fantasy stories.

Book 2 - Riddle in Stone

Author: Ree Soesbee

Kellach, Driskoll and Moyra get in trouble again as they investigate sudden disappearances, Moyra's sick dad, and a mysterious stranger in town. This story has a lot of really cool sneaking around, puzzle solving and desperately trying to outsmart dangerous people and creatures. It's a great story of the kids getting in over their head to save the day again. There's even a creature from Greek legend in this story!

Book 3 - Sign of the Shapeshifter

Authors: Dale Donovan and Linda Johns

Ok, major problemo in this book. There's a bunch of really cool stuff going on in Curston and, when Kellach, Driskoll and Moyra get involved it sounds like an ancient enemy of the Knights of the Silver Dragon is back. Suddenly, the book nosedives when the kids go out and start killing things, including people-ish monsters, on purpose. It's majorly bad mojo, especially since they're 12-14 years old and doubly so 'cuz the authors could have found another way to save the day. Lame. Give this one a miss.
