San Diego Area Attractions

Planning a trip to California this summer? Before you head off on your vacation, take a look at some of the coolest attractions in the San Diego Area - it'll save you from reading through all those tourist brochures!

San Diego - San Diego Wild Animal Park

Get up close and personal with wild animals at the San Diego Park. We're talking native animals of Africa, the Brazilian Amazon and other exotic places in the world. The park offers tours throughout their various exhibits, including the Savanna Cool Zone. You'll travel through the habitats of giraffes, elephants and even lions!

San Diego - San Diego Zoo

The San Diego Zoo is home to hundreds of different animals from panda bears to flamingos. This year, a brand new exhibit has been added called Monkey Trails and Forest Tales. This new exhibit houses 30 different species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. The Monkey Trails allow you to walk through this unique habitat on a pathway that has been built through the tree canopy! From monkeys to exotic pigs, you'll encounter it all at the San Diego Zoo! An interesting fact is that it took 1,300 truck loads of dirt to build the Monkey Trails habitat - that amount of dirt would fill 213 buses. For more information, head to www.sandiegozoo.or

San Diego - SeaWorld

What's better than a day at the water park? A day at a water park that's home to some of the most interesting deep sea creatures in the world. Watch live shows with killer whales, dolphins and other SeaWorld performers. Jump into the tide pool habitats and introduce yourself to starfish, hermit crabs and other beach dwellers. Discover animals you wouldn't see anywhere else, like Arctic penguins, various species of sharks and many other underwater animals. There's so much to check out at SeaWorld that you won't have a problem spending the entire day there exploring! For more information, check out www.seaworld.com.

San Diego - LEGOLAND

Travel through a world that you only thought possible in your imagination! Dragons, castles, dinosaurs and more litter the park at LEGOLAND and are all created from your fave building blocks. There are tons of exhibits featuring some seriously cool LEGO projects, as well as a bunch of amusement park rides. Gustpaw padded up to his mentor, Darkfur. "Can we go hunting, Darkfur?" He asked his mentor. "Now?" He asked in disbelief. "We just got back from dawn patrol, and training right after!" He said. Gustpaw didn't care, he was full of energy. "Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease, Darkfur?" He pleaded to the dark brown warrior. "Oh, go catch a bird!" Darkfur spat and walked off. So he did.    The next day after hunting, Gustpaw asked Darkfur if they could go and train with the other apprentices. "No, I'm tired from hunting and dawn patrol this morning," he said, sleepily. "Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease, Darkfur?" He whined to the broad-shouldered tabby. "Go catch a bird, apprentice," he said and stumbled to the Warriors' den. So he did.   The next day after training, Gustpaw asked Darkfur if they could go on evening patrol. "No way! The way you hunted earlier was horrible! A deaf rabbit could have heard you!" He scolded. Gustpaw flattened his silver ears. "May I please try hunting again?" He asked politely. "Later," his mentor said. "Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease, Darkfur?" He pleaded desperately with sorrow in his eyes. "Go and catch a bird, you scrap of fur!" Darkfur ordered, angrily. So he did and didn't come back.    The next day after Darkfur returned from hunting, he went to the Apprentices' den. "Has anyone seen Gustpaw?" He asked, not seeing his fluffy, light gray apprentice in the den. "I haven't seen him," Berrypaw said, her dappled tortoiseshell pelt glowed from the sunlight between the branches of the gorse bush. "Neither have I." Oakpaw answered him. "Me either..." Sparrowpaw replied. "I hope he's okay!" Featherpaw burst out. "Huh?" Darkfur asked as Berrypaw padded over to comfort Featherpaw. "Gustpaw will be okay," she reassured Featherpaw. Featherpaw just scuffled her gray paw on the ground. "C'mon, he's strong, brave, swift, smart, and loyal. He'll be fine and he'll return eventually." Berrypaw reminded her. "I hope so," she replied. Suddenly, her eyes burned with a new fire. "We have to find him!" She said loudly. "I'll find him if it's then last thing I do!"   Search parties searched every little bit of ThunderClan territory, but they hadn't found Gustpaw.   At the Gathering, ThunderClan's leader, Gingerstar, asked the other leaders if they had seen Gustpaw. "RiverClan hasn't, right?" Ripplestar asked his Clan. They shook their heads. "Redstar?" She asked the ShadowClan leader. "Haven't seen him," Redstar answered as ThunderClan started to worry. Featherpaw started up at the leaders on the rock, praying to StarClan that WindClan saw him. Gingerstar asked WindClan's leader. "I'm sorry, Gingerstar, but we haven't seen him." Hawkstar answered. Featherpaw stared up in disbelief. "Gustpaw!" She yowled in sorrow. "He can't go, he can't! I refuse to believe he's gone, he has to be somewhere! Oh Gustpaw, oh Gustpaw! StarClan, why?" She wailed like a queen who's kit has died. Darkfur leaned over to Leapfoot, Featherpaw's mentor. "What's wrong with her? I suppose it is sad that we lost Gustpaw, but why is she making such a big fuss over one apprentice?" He asked her. Leapfoot looked at him like he asked her if hedgehogs could fly. "You honestly haven't noticed yet?" She asked him with a mrrow of laughter. Darkfur tilted his head, clearly unaware of what Leapfur's talking about. "You stupid furball!" She said playfully. "Featherpaw has been into Gustpaw for moons!" She said, getting more serious. "I bet her heart feels broken." She says and quietly adds "Like mine." She said, talking about Drizzlepelt, her mate who died in battle with RiverClan. She stood frozen in place, staring up at Silverpelt. The moon made her sand-colored pelt glow, but Darkfur knew she didn't feel as radiant as she looked right now. He looked at her and then to her apprentice, both staring up,at Silverpelt, both lost their mates. Suddenly, realization hit him like a thorn in his pad. I caused both, Drizzlepelt and Gustpaw's deaths...   Once back at camp, Darkfur went to his nest in the Warriors' den. He laid down and closed his eyes. He had provoked RiverClan by chasing a rabbit over the border, accidentally which killed Drizzlepelt. And he had been a piece of pure fox dung to Gustpaw which chased him away, probably into StarClan. He had caused both their deaths and their mates didn't know it. He sighed and lay there with his eyes open, staring into nothing.   At moonhigh, Darkfur wriggled silently out of the Warriors' den and exited camp through patch of gorse near the nursery. He ran out of the ravine (yes, this is in the forest) and ran through the trees. He was running the direction of RiverClan. Once there, he pelted along the borderline until he reached The Gorge. "I don't deserve the respect ThunderClan gives me. Leapfoot and Featherpaw dot deserve to be broke-hearted. Drizzlepelt and Gustpaw didn't deserve to die." He paused. "But I do." And jumped into The Gorge.
