Comic Review - Batman Dark Victory #10

Dark Victory

Stick a 'Dark' in front of the title of a series and I'm all over it. I'd even be slightly curious to read a 'Dark Archie' if they ever came up with one. Titles aside though, this tenth installment of the Dark Victory series has a little bit of everything (more art than talk - thanks Jeph Loeb), lots of shadows (thanks Tim Sale) and a brooding hero (thanks Bob Kane.) It may be easily accomplished with a character that has the history of Batman but with very few words Loeb manages to flesh out the emotions behind the bat.

The down side to this story is the abundance of story and the abundance of evil. In the blue corner we have Batman, with young Dick Grayson waiting in the wings (whole other storyline), and a young, headstrong Commissioner Gordon in search of the fiend who has been hanging police officers every holiday (whole other storyline #2.) While in the black corner representing evil, wearing the two tone shorts, we have Harvey Dent/Two-Face, Mr. Freeze (looking very cool indeed) and The Mad Hatter. If it's starting to sound like a Batman movie, take heart. No comparison!
